Being a World Championship qualifying event for 2007, this event attracted the strongest field for years. As a trial, the tournament was run under a slightly new format with players refereeing their own matches and being asked to call on an official or another player to watch any shot that could result in a “miss”.
The highest break went to Dene O’Kane with 133. Dene missed a hard black for a 140 clearance.
The winner for 2007, Chris McBreen, beat Alistair Davidson 3/2. Chris beat Dene in the Semi Finals and Dene was also beaten by Clive Thomson in section play which goes to show the strength of the field.
The other main change to our Auckland tournaments is that with six tables available, events will be restricted to the first 35 paid entries and a plate event will be run for non-qualifiers.
