Snooker is on the way back in Auckland!

A snooker revival is on the way.  We have had the largest A-Grade and B-Grade Snooker fields for a number of years and looking at getting a field of forty for the City of Auckland Snooker and the OWMC/North Harbour Open Snooker tournaments.

In the Auckland B-Grade Snooker field there were fourteen new or unranked players (11 new and 3 who hadn’t played in a B-Grade Snooker event for about 25 years).  Their ages are covered by the Privacy Act!!  Two newcomers ended up in the final, with Jimmy Henry defeating Gordon Dong by 3/0.

Both players had fourteen breaks over 20 each with both players also only losing one frame each up to the final.  The main surprise in the tournament was probably Ramona Belmont not qualifying for Post-Section play.

The Auckland A-Grade Snooker field was an extremely strong field.  So strong that Chris McBreen only managed to qualify number 16 on a frame countback.  The unluckiest non-qualifier had to be Scott Farnworth who had Wyn Belmont one frame down and wanting a snooker with only a pink and black left on the table in the second frame.  Wyn got an incredibly good snooker, Scott missed the pink by a millimetre, Wyn then potted a long pink and equally hard black effectively putting Scott out and Chris McBreen in.

Chris went on to win the final defeating Henry Killian 3/0 who also scored the tournament’s highest break of 93.
