Held at the ACBS Clubrooms : 02-03 May 2009

It was certainly a breath of fresh air to see all of the juniors arrive from the Lucky Break Room for this tournament.  They were well-dressed and behaved like gentlemen throughout the tournament and there certainly looks like a lot of potentially talented players shaping up, thanks to the efforts of Wyn Belmont and his team.

Section play went much to order.  However, Bruce Davies and Friday Harema both played in their first ABSA tournament, had three wins each and qualified for post-section play.

Kerry Bell played well after her last week’s win in the Women’s Snooker and could have been Runner-up in her section, but had to settle for third.  This resulted in her having to play a wone-frame play-off against Colin Allport to see who made the 16th spot in post-section play, which Colin won.

There wa some great post-section play matches.  Roy Clark and Sani Roberts made some good breaks in their Quarter-final match with Roy winning 2/1.

The match of the tournament was probably the Semi-final match between Sanjay Kumar and Gordon Dong.  Gordon won the first frame having a 51 break.  In the third frame Gordon was 22 ahead with the green still on the table, and Sanjay had a very good 25 clearance to take the match.

In the other Semi-final Vinny Gounder missed some easy chances allowing Roy Clark to always appear in command, winning 2/0.

Sanjay’s long potting was superb in the final and Roy just seemed to start jawing balls that he had been getting all weekend and Sanjay took out the title 2/0.

The Plate Final was between two Juniors from the Lucky Break Room and they had a great match with Dominic Tamehana winning 2/1 over Victor Tangihaere.
