ABSA Open Snooker Pairs
December 15th, 2009
Held at the ACBS Clubrooms : 12 December 2009
Five pairs played Section Play for the shield donated by Ken Joyce in 1972. On paper the favourites looked like being Clive Thomson and Roy Clark, but despite Thomson having breaks of 50, 45 and six other breaks over 25, they only managed to win one match, and so failed to qualify for the final.
Jon Grimley, who was partnered with Jonathan Cox, was certainly the most consistent player of the day, consistently making breaks in the 20’s and 30’s. He also had a 43 clearance which included some really great shots.
Ron Milicich and Wayne Carey narrowly missed out having three wins, losing their last match to Grimley and Cox 2/1 on the pink.
Sanjay and Bimlesh Kumar both had some great pots and also missed a lot of chances to win frames easily instead of on the pink or black.
The Final went down to the wire with the Kumar’s winning the third frame on the pink.
Final : S Kumar/B Kumar bt J Grimley/J Cox
Highest Break : C Thomson (50)
