November 25th, 2009
O’Kane lost the final match of the World Snooker Masters Championship against Welshman Darren Morgan, by a whopping 6/0 in Hyderbad, India. Had O’Kane won this match he would have been the first in history to hold the title four times.
The IBSF (International Billiards & Snooker Federation) World Snooker Championships have been running in India since 13 November and New Zealand had an impressive seven representatives across all three events.
All three New Zealand entrants in the Masters event qualified, with O’Kane going on to defend his title in the Final. The other competitors, Clive Thomson and Henry Killian, both lost their matches in the Last 32.
Chris Maltby and Mark Hannah played in the Men’s event with Maltby going through to the Last 64 and Hannan failing to qualify in his Section.
The Ladies event saw New Zealand’s Ramona Belmont, not only qualify but also go through to the Semi-Finals where she lost her match against Hong Kong’s Ng On Yee.
