ABSA Women’s Open Snooker
October 29th, 2008
Held at the ACBS Clubrooms 25 October 2008 :
Siloti Maher won her sixth Open Women’s title, but not without some anxious moments!
In the first round of Section Play which was still a one-frame match, Lucinda Prescott - who was playing in her first snooker tournament and only the previous night even had a hit on a snooker table - was about 30 in front of Siloti, with one red left, was on line to cause a major upset until she got snookered and conceded 20 points. She then missed the ball (which she could hit) three times giving away a further 15 points and letting Siloti off the hook.
In the Semi-final, Julia Kenny was unlucky in the first frame, potting the black and going off it; Siloti convincingly won the second frame.
The Final between Siloti and Sheryl Cummings, who had knocked out Nita Clarkson in the first round of Post Section Play, was won by Siloti 2/0.
Quarter-finals: J Kenny (bye), S Maher bt L Prescott, N Strang bt Y Yan, S Cummings bt N Clarkson.
Semi-finals: S Maher bt J Kenny 2/0, S Cummings bt N Strang 2/1.
Final: S Maher bt S Cummings 2/0.
Highest Break : Y Yan 25
