APA Regional 9-Ball Championships

Held at the ACBS Clubrooms : 29 July 2007

Unfortunately the Northern Area chose to run their singles and pairs tournaments on the same weekend, when the weekend either side there was nothing on that would have clashed!

As a result there were only two women’s entries and Lena Gray ended up defeating Heather Laabroek 9/7 to win the Women’s Regional 9-Ball title.

In the Men’s event, similarly there was a smaller field than normal.  Not too many surprises in Section Play but good to see some new faces and also some players returning after a few years away. 

The Men’s Quarter-Finals were all hard fought victories leaving three stalwarts and Wayne Belmont in the Semi-Finals.  In the Final between Chris and Jimmy, both players showed why they are two of the top 9-Ball players in the country, producing some brilliant clearances and also some amazing “jump shot pots”.  However, a very determined Chris Bowman came through winning the Final and title 11-5.  Chris was also the only player on the day not to lose a match in the event.

Quarter-Finals: W Belmont bt J Davey 9/5, J Henry bt B Semple 9/3, G Coutts bt J Grimley 9/8, C Bowman bt S Stevenson 9/7.

Semi-Finals: J Henry bt W Belmont 10/4, C Bowman bt G Coutts 10/8.

Men’s Final: C Bowman bt J Henry 11/5.

Women’s Final: L Gray bt H Laanbroek.
