There were some very talented youngsters in this tournament thanks to Wayne Belmont’s coaching efforts with the six players in the field that he’s been training; the youngest at only 11 years old

With two players not turning up, this left a field of 18 players, 16 of which qualified for post-section play. There were four first-timers to tournament play and three of those qualified for the next round and they all performed well, with Josh Tate beating Cliff Keach 2/0, Taniela Filipo lost to Faz Powell 2/1 and Magnosh Pagdiwalla beat Louis Chand 2/0. A field of 9 played for the Montgomery trophy and all qualified for Post-Section play, their positions being determined by their performance during section play with the 8th and 9th qualifiers playing off to see who went through to the quarter-finals. Continue reading »

This was the largest field we’ve had event for a number of years, with 43 men and 13 women. This did mean that there were quite a few sections with different numbers of players in them which also meant a lot of calculation had to be done because there were 32 qualifiers in the men’s section and 8 in the women’s.
