A top field of 35 in this event which included players from Christchurch, Wellington, Napier, Waikato and Auckland.  Because of the calibre of the field there were some major upsets, notably 3rd, 4th and 5th seeds Gary Gillard, Shannon Swain and Eldon Lai failing to qualify for Post-section Play.  Section 7 ended by having 3 x 3 winners with Willy Florence first on a +6 differential, second was Dale Kwok on a +4 and third was Clive Thomson on a +3 allowing him to qualify in the number 15 spot as one of the two best thirds.  The other third place getter who qualified as number 16 was Shannon Swain.  At this stage of the tournament there had been 25 breaks over 40, the top break being 92 by Thomson. Tournament Reports by Malcolm Beehre : The field in the Men’s Championship was extremely strong and with four top Australian players included, it meant for some top NZ players missing out qualifying for Post Section Play.  Some of the more noticeable ones to miss out were the 2010 and 2011 NZ 8-Ball Champion Will Wen, plus Brent Wells and Steven Liu.
