This was the first tournament of 2010 and it was very pleasing to see all players well dressed. This was also the first tournament for about twelve years, that playres were allowed to have an alcoholic drink while playing matches. At the last committee meeting it was voted to relax the liquor restrictions to allow this, but only in non-ranking events.
Effective immediately, there will be no further production of the monthly ACBS Newsletter. We need you to join the “Auckland Confederation of Billiard Sports” Facebook Group so that we can keep you up to date on what’s happening. There will hopefully be some developments on this website in the very near future, to allow you to register for notifications. Please help spread the word about the Facebook Group (link in the item below). Entry forms will also be available at the ACBS Clubrooms for collection, or as you are aware, you can download them from this website. More details to come shortly.
We need our help to save cue-sports! The ACBS is currently endeavouring to get snooker back on television. Hopefully we will be filming a 147 tournament at the end of Oceania on 28 March 2011 which will then be formatted into a 15-week series. We need all the help we can get with advertisers and/or sponsors. Costs are indicative and if we are able to fill all the advertising spots, then the costs will be a little less than stated on the information sheet. We do not intend to make any profit from this – we simply want to cover costs.

Five pairs played Section Play for the shield donated by Ken Joyce in 1972. On paper the favourites looked like being Clive Thomson and Roy Clark, but despite Thomson having breaks of 50, 45 and six other breaks over 25, they only managed to win one match, and so failed to qualify for the final. O’Kane lost the final match of the World Snooker Masters Championship against Welshman Darren Morgan, by a whopping 6/0 in Hyderbad, India. Had O’Kane won this match he would have been the first in history to hold the title four times.
