The winner was a newcomer to our tournaments – Daniel Li beating Eddie Moya 4/3.  Moya was 3-0 up, but was so nervous at making his first final that he missed a few easy shots in the next four frames, allowing Li to win.

Held at the ACBS Clubrooms and hosted by the Auckland Pool Assn : 02-03 March 2013

Report by Malcolm Beehre : A smaller than normal field for the Men’s event, but certainly not lacking quality.  The top two seeds in each Section qualifying easily for Post Section play.  But there were some real upsets in the knockout stage, with Will Wen (currently NZ 8-Ball Champ) losing 7/0 to Mohammad Baabad from Hamilton, and Kevin Zhang who arrived late and forfeited 1 frame in his match, losing 7/4 to Steven Liu. Report by Malcolm Beehre : Certainly good to see a section of 6 for the women’s event.  Connie Adams, who doesn’t play in many tournaments played well and had three wins in Section Play to qualify third.  Top qualifier was Molrudee Kasemchaiyanan with 5 wins, then Lisa Everett on 4 wins, and Dou Noble with 2 wins. Report by Malcolm Beehre : The 2012 Auckland Pool Assn 8-Ball pairs played under Scotch Pairs rules was certainly a different experience for me and certainly did appear to lengthen the time of matches mainly because after some discussion before the tournament started, it was decided that players could discuss shots after each shot, provided this fitted into the 45 seconds that is allowed for a shot to be played.
