NZ Billiard players `cueing up for Leeds’
Provincial Billiard Championships have been held around New Zealand with the Qualifying Cueists getting automatic entry into the `Blue Ribbon Event’ , the NZ Billiard Championships to be held at Auckland’s home of CueSports, SnookerWorld on Mt Albert Road at Royal Oak July 7th to 10th this year.
New Zealand’s recognized IBSF Cuesport Coach, Mr Gary Gillard, held in February this year for `Billiard players’, a `Billiard Coaching School’. The benefits of this `special coaching’ was very much appreciated by all Cueists who attended.
Current and 11 times NZ Champion, and Christchurch’s Champion, Gary Oliver has boldly let his Cue do the talking again this year when winning the South Island Championship with two double century breaks (240-252). Oliver, also holds the NZ National Billiards highest break of 303 and makes no secret that he is after a 500+ break this year. He will again be the one to beat next week. Others to be going to the NZ Champs from the South Island are past NZ Champion Peter deGroot, and NZBSA President, Mr Alan Parris.
Wellington will have their Champion Derek Gibb (also a past NZ Champion), along with Russ Delahunty, and Neil Gyde,
Waikato will be represented by their 2013 and 2014 Champion Darren Taylor, multiple Trophy winner Joe Ifa, along with International Referees Cliff Hazelton and Dan O’Sullivan whose services will be required at the WORLD BILLIARD CHAMPIONSHIPS to be held at Leeds, UK in October.
Auckland will be represented by Billiard Legend, Ron Milicich, along with Bryce Good, and the current Auckland Champion Wayne Carey (also a past NZ Billiards Champion).
There is plenty for the NZ’s Cueists to strive for, as this year’s NZ Billiard Titleholder will get automatic entry along with the NZBSA’s next #1 ranked player into the World Championship at Leeds in October.
Because of good Sponsorship, entry is `free’ to anybody wanting to watch some of NZ’s best Cueists over the two weeks of the NZ Billiards and Snooker National Champs at Royal Oak.
Current world Billiard Champion, Peter Gilchrist, who has had `two’ 1000 point breaks (1346 and 1000) will come `down-under’ and be at the Hamilton Cosmopolitan Club September 23 -28 this year to contest in our World Ranked tournament, the `NZ Open Billiards’ where it is expected that several of the current World’s International star cueist’s will compete against NZ’s best.
