City of Auckland Open Snooker

Posted on June 20th, 2012

Held at the ACBS Clubrooms : 16-17 June 2012

A very strong field for this tournament, probably due to it being the last ranking tournament before the 2012 National Billiards & Snooker Championships.

Giant killer of the tournament was Marino Hapi who was #5 seed in Section 3.  Hapi had 5 wins which included a 2/1 over Sanjay Kumar.  Top Qualifier for Post-Section play was Chris Maltby followed by Steve Robertson, Matthew Scarborough and Hapi.  However, Hapi was soundly beaten 3/0 by Gillard in the Quarter-finals.  The other Quarter-final results were Robertson bt Roberts 3/0, Killian bt Scarborough 3/0 and Bala bt Maltby 3/2.  Maltby had a 102 break in the third frame of this match.  Semi-final results were Killian bt Robertson 3/1 and Gilliard bt Bala 3/2.  The Final went 3/0 to Killian over Gillard.
