ABSA Open Billiards

Report by Wayne Carey : In one Semi-finals, Derek Gibb (Capital City) played consistently to beat Bryce Good (Auckland).  Derek’s safety was strong with Bryce having to try and create a ‘starter’ via a two or three cushion cannon and when successful with some of these, could not turn them into large enough scoring breaks.  Derek Gibb won 303/213. The four qualifiers for Post Section were (1) Wayne Carey, (2) Ron Milicich, (3) Bryce Good and (4) Greg Moreton.  Ron turned 78 today and we wished him well on this very special day.

Semi-finals : W Carey bt G Moreton 527/173, B Good bt R Milicich 338/268.

Final : W Carey bt B Good 367/246.

APA One-Day 10-Ball

The Final was between Aman Nayyar and Eddie Moya, making it his second Final in two days.  This time he overcame his nervousness, winning 5/3.

APA One-Day 8-Ball

The winner was a newcomer to our tournaments – Daniel Li beating Eddie Moya 4/3.  Moya was 3-0 up, but was so nervous at making his first final that he missed a few easy shots in the next four frames, allowing Li to win.

2013 NZPA North Island 8-Ball Champs

Held at the ACBS Clubrooms and hosted by the Auckland Pool Assn : 02-03 March 2013

jpegReport by Malcolm Beehre : A smaller than normal field for the Men’s event, but certainly not lacking quality.  The top two seeds in each Section qualifying easily for Post Section play.  But there were some real upsets in the knockout stage, with Will Wen (currently NZ 8-Ball Champ) losing 7/0 to Mohammad Baabad from Hamilton, and Kevin Zhang who arrived late and forfeited 1 frame in his match, losing 7/4 to Steven Liu.
