Posted on March 5th, 2013

Held at the ACBS Clubrooms and hosted by the Auckland Pool Assn : 02-03 March 2013

jpegReport by Malcolm Beehre : A smaller than normal field for the Men’s event, but certainly not lacking quality.  The top two seeds in each Section qualifying easily for Post Section play.  But there were some real upsets in the knockout stage, with Will Wen (currently NZ 8-Ball Champ) losing 7/0 to Mohammad Baabad from Hamilton, and Kevin Zhang who arrived late and forfeited 1 frame in his match, losing 7/4 to Steven Liu. ABSA B-Grade One-Day Snooker

Posted on February 28th, 2013

Held at the ACBS Clubrooms : 23 February 2013

Report by Malcolm Beehre : One Section of 7 and one Section of 8 played a 1-frame round robin format using Soopa Snooka Rules.  Post Section play was best of 3 frames.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the day with only a couple of instances where a player forgot the rules by not hitting a cushion and so giving a ball in hand to the opponent.   Continue reading »

Posted on February 15th, 2013

Held at the ACBS Club: 09 February 2013

jpeg-2Report by Malcolm Beehre : Certainly good to see a section of 6 for the women’s event.  Connie Adams, who doesn’t play in many tournaments played well and had three wins in Section Play to qualify third.  Top qualifier was Molrudee Kasemchaiyanan with 5 wins, then Lisa Everett on 4 wins, and Dou Noble with 2 wins. ABSA 2012 Open Snooker Pairs

Posted on December 12th, 2012

Held at the ACBS Clubrooms :

An historic occasion for this event.  The shield was donated in 1972 by Kenny Joyce.  Forty years later Kenny was playing in the event with Kerry Claydon.

The only change to the format was that the Soopa Snooka Rules were being used.  Section Play did start off being best of 3 frames but was changed after the first round to 1 frame.  The reason for this was that the players who had never played under these rules seemed to become more interested in playing for snookers to try and get ball in hand, rather than potting, and frames were taking far too long. 2012 APA 8-Ball Scotch Pairs

Posted on December 12th, 2012

Held at the ACBS Clubrooms

Report by Malcolm Beehre : The 2012 Auckland Pool Assn 8-Ball pairs played under Scotch Pairs rules was certainly a different experience for me and certainly did appear to lengthen the time of matches mainly because after some discussion before the tournament started, it was decided that players could discuss shots after each shot, provided this fitted into the 45 seconds that is allowed for a shot to be played.
